This chapter examines the enduring legacy of the al-Anwar restoration. For the Dawoodi Bohra community, the restoration became a source of barakat (blessing) and inspired a global architectural style. In conservation, the restoration approach challenged traditional frameworks and uncovered significant archaeological findings. The restoration’s influence on Cairo’s urban landscape is evident in government-led projects at other historic masjids, such as al-Azhar, which have adopted similar aesthetic and material approaches. User research reveals that popular acceptance among Muslim visitors contrasts sharply with professional criticism, highlighting a divide between expert and community perspectives on heritage.
