Not surprisingly, just as in Kosovo, the findings on local peace meanings in Medellín indicate that by far most interviewees agree they currently do not live in peace. As explained above, this notion contradicts the widespread narrative on Medellín, presenting it as an ‘urban miracle’, where violence rates have significantly dropped, business is flourishing, and tourism is thriving. As a result, the types of interventions are not always in line with the vision of peace as understood by the interviewees; and do not always counter the existing obstacles to peace. This chapter, similar to Chapter Defining Obstacles to and Capacities for Peace in Kosovo , is divided in two parts: first I will present the obstacles to peace, followed by the capacities for peace that exist in Medellín.
