摘要

In line with Camila, Burim (Kosovo-Albanian, 33) argues “to be real, I think I have never felt peace”. During my time in the field in Kosovo (the first half of 2020), by far most of the interlocutors in both research contexts were of the opinion that they do not live in peace, and those who do, mention that the existing peace is only relative. When I returned in November of 2024 to present my results to various CSOs and NGOs, people not only agreed with this statement but especially the Kosovo-Serb community indicated their sense of peace only deteriorated over these last years. Before however unpacking this, the first half of this chapter is dedicated to introducing this young democracy. Despite being one of the youngest countries in the world, Kosovo’s history can be traced back centuries.
