A Digital Twin-Based Approach for Collaborative Physical Internet in Smart Cities Using CARLA and Gaia-X
摘要
The expansion of logistics networks, driven by evolving business models, enables convenient online shopping but also poses environmental and public health challenges in urban areas. To address these issues, this paper presents an approach that integrates the Physical Internet(PI) within a Digital Twin (DT) environment. The PI is a logistics system that moves goods efficiently through standardized containers and networks. Utilizing the CARLA simulator, a prototype is developed that incorporates Gaia-X security components and a Multi-Agent System (MAS) to ensure secure and efficient freight transport. A key contribution of this work is the introduction of a new standard agent equipped with Gaia-X components, capable of representing both vehicles and parcels within the PI framework. This agent facilitates dynamic adaptation and secure exchanges at transport nodes. The extensibility of this framework allows for the inclusion of various entities, enabling real-time route optimization and enhancing overall system security. This paper showcases the current implementation and progress of this concept, providing a foundation for further testing and development in smart city logistics.
