On the one hand, it may enable more effective energy resource extraction, conversion, distribution, and use by improving effectiveness in all aspects of energy systems. On the other hand, it is causing an unanticipated growth in the demand for electricity in some regions, due to data center and server farm expansion. A large data center uses the equivalent of a small town’s electricity.
