The clinical transplant coordinator (CTC) is a specialized healthcare professional who is responsible for facilitating all aspects of the transplant process. The CTC is the point of contact for the patient. Throughout the transplant process, the CTC will be involved in every phase—the referral, evaluation, wait-listing, coordination of donor organ allocation, and providing transplant care, support, and ongoing education to the recipient and the caregivers. The CTC will adhere to the designated United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) policies and procedures, allocation, and ethical considerations during the process. The requirements of a CTC are specific to the transplant program: a professional nursing license or a physician assistant license, years of clinical experience, and required specialized training in transplantation at some centers. A credential of Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) may be required within a specific timeframe while holding the role.
