This chapter examines the role gender plays in how climate change is experienced. Because socioeconomic power, cultural norms, and traditional roles make some people more vulnerable to climate change than others, the consequences of rising sea levels, increased temperatures, drier conditions, and more extreme storms are disproportionately felt by low-income communities and women, particularly women of color. The impacts of climate change on women are organized by impact area: housing, food, health, and safety.
