This chapter introduces the basic elements of the kinematics of a particle in three-dimensional physical space. First, we consider the notion of a frame, or an observer, in spacetime. Then, we define geometrically the motion of a particle, the velocity, and the acceleration. We enable more concrete analyses of the kinematic variables using coordinate systems: Cartesian coordinates, polar coordinates in the plane, and normal-tangential components.

摘要

This chapter introduces the basic elements of the kinematics of a particle in three-dimensional physical space. First, we consider the notion of a frame, or an observer, in spacetime. Then, we define geometrically the motion of a particle, the velocity, and the acceleration. We enable more concrete analyses of the kinematic variables using coordinate systems: Cartesian coordinates, polar coordinates in the plane, and normal-tangential components.
