Terms and Conditions
摘要
Terms and Conditions sheds light on the influence of typography on some of subRosa’s projects. After that, in the spirit of subRosa’s art practice, the chapter shares Hyla Willis’ ongoing engagement with the Terms and Conditions encountered in everyday life that has led her to a form of durational art practice that teases the [im]possibilities for “opting out” of an economy that recklessly extracts consumer data while undermining users’ leverage to fight its most exploitative practices. This chapter asks if ideas about “Typographic Man” and the “global village” (McLuhan) might be helpful in understanding the Age of Agentive AI, despite the many shortcomings of early media studies.
