The Introduction outlines the major themes of Night Sweats and engages with the legacy of cyberfeminism for bioart and technoscience studies. The chapter starts with the history of the subRosa cyberfeminist art collective, when bioart, tactical media, and cyberfeminism appeared all around the same time. The chapter then showcases an example from each of those movements to focus on their wider aesthetic influences and key terms. Finally, the chapter outlines the current art and life practices that will be discussed throughout the book. The overall argument here is that centering anti-racist, postcolonial, and body-focused feminist analyses has enabled artists, scholars, activists, and scientists to connect the tactical biopolitical framework with a critique of the extractive logics of biomedical and technological research, especially Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) and surveillance.
