This chapter provides an overview of the potential misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) in criminal activities. It highlights the evolving threats posed by AI, such as its use in surveillance, counterterrorism, and cybercrime. It explores studies that analyse AI-supported crime, including the vulnerabilities of large language models, the malicious use of generative AI tools, and the transformation of methods used in romance fraud and ransomware attacks. It also discusses the debate around imposing criminal liability on AI and the impact of AI on warfare and cyber espionage. This chapter also emphasises the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and responsible AI deployment practices to address current and emerging challenges posed by the criminal use of AI.
