Introduction: Multilingualism and Multiculturalism in Context
摘要
As a multi-ethnic and multicultural country marked by extensive linguistic diversity, the Namibian landscape provides a unique case for juxtaposing the challenges and benefits of multilingualism and multiculturalism. This introductory chapter provides a snapshot of how multilingualism and multiculturalism are significant sociocultural factors experienced in Namibia, and how, if managed well, they can promote linguistic and cultural diversity, inclusion, and social development for the realisation of the ‘One Namibia, One Nation’ mantra. The chapter foregrounds the purpose of the book, which is to provide a platform for multi/interdisciplinary voices on the subject of multilingualism and multiculturalism in Namibia through critical, empirical, practical, and theoretically engaged debates and conversations on this contemporary and highly significant subject.
