Transpersonal gratitude is characterised by an interpretation of beneficial events in the absence of an intentional agent. This chapter argues that transpersonal gratitude plays a key role in fostering a positive experience of dependence between the grateful individual and the world they inhabit, as well as humility and empathy, nurtured by feelings of connectedness reported in experiences of transpersonal gratitude. The chapter begins by discussing these feelings of connectedness, followed by an examination of the connections between transpersonal gratitude and empathy, as well as between transpersonal gratitude and humility. Finally, it explores the relationship between connectedness, dependence, humility and transpersonal gratitude.
