This chapter describes the purpose of business processes and their integration into the organizational and technical environment. Based on the intentions an organization wishes to pursue with a process, the qualitative and quantitative objectives are defined. They are discussed in the context of digital transformation and continuous improvement activities. Finally, Business Process Management is considered from a corporate governance perspective.
