The Development of Post-Traumatic Growth
摘要
There is an extensive body of literature about the impact on survivors, while the positive aspects of post-traumatic experiences are covered less often. However, for trauma-informed intervention, the possibility of healing through the availability of internal and external post-trauma resources, such as resilience and external support, offers the potential for cognitive and emotional changes and contributes to the survivor’s healing. The presence of these post-traumatic behaviors and outlooks that contribute to the survivor’s recovery process is known as post-traumatic growth (PTG). It helps survivors develop new ways of looking at their traumatic past (a positive outlook), changing how they feel and behave in post-war or conflict situations. This chapter focuses on the positive side of trauma, the growth of neurobiological structures that contribute to it, and their benefits. It will also discuss the role of social workers in fostering this growth through co-regulation and the maintenance of PTG.
