STEM content can pose significant challenges to students’ literacy skills. The focus of this chapter is on (1) the state of the research on the connections between literacy and STEM, (2) building a case for high-quality microcredential STEM to re-skill and up-skill educators in literacy-STEM integration, and (3) identifying literacy strategies that research has shown are effective for supporting students’ STEM learning. A narrative review methodology was employed to summarize and critically analyze key research on the relation between literacy and STEM to establish the theoretical and evidential foundation for asserting that STEM teachers should engage in literacy microcredential coursework to enhance their students’ STEM learning.

摘要
