Role of Advanced Techniques to Adapt Climate Resilience
摘要
Climate change has been considered as one of the most important global concerns; it disrupts ecosystems, affects the livelihood of mankind and it causes high frequency and intensity of extreme weather phenomena. Climate resilience, the ability to anticipate, prepare for and respond to climate-induced stress, has become a key element of sustainable development. This chapter examines how advanced technologies are transforming climate resilience in the realm of agriculture, water management, and disaster preparedness, as well as in urban planning. It addresses how state-of-the-art tools including new and emerging remote sensing and geographic information systems technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics can be applied to climate impact management and adaptation. The chapter also features biotechnological breakthroughs toward the development of climate-resilient crops and nature-based solutions that are synergistic with smart infrastructure. Illustrated with case studies and applied examples this an ideal reference text for graduates and researchers and an invaluable guide for practitioners who need to understand and apply these technologies. The chapter also presents barriers of technology adaptation, data assimilation, policy coordination, and socioeconomic constrains. It highlights the necessity for inter-disciplinary work and closer cooperation between scientists, policy makers, and communities to effectively use advanced methods to contribute to adaptive and resilient climate strategies.
