This chapter narrates the life experiences of three deaf Indigenous women: Carolina, from the Mapuche community; Nolvia, from the Lickanantai community; and Marinita, from the Pijao community. Through their stories, we learn about their childhoods in rural communities, the challenges they faced in communicating with their families and surroundings, and the determination with which they forged their identities. The chapter invites us to reflect on the lives of deaf Indigenous women: How do they live their cultural identity? How do they build community within their native community? What roles have they played? How do they fully participate in a society that presents struggles and challenges and where contributing to cultural preservation is fundamental? Despite the enormous geographical distance that separates these women and the differences in their worldviews, their stories take us on a shared journey to learn about their emotions, obstacles, achievements, and dreams, revealing the resilience with which they have forged their paths. In their stories, we discover their strength and the contributions they make to their communities’ diversity.
