Hermeneutics of Social Media Influence on Perception and Imagination
摘要
Social media has, in a sense, taken over the modern world. Social media technologies and tools influence users’ perception and imagination. Perception is changing: visual form and visual perception have become fundamental. They serve as a way of constructing, interpreting, and evaluating the world. In this vein, the existential notion of “to be” is interpreted as “to be shown”. It is the media that create new ontological places where reality is generated. Additionally, social media have altered the functioning of the productive and reproductive imaginations of users. This article focuses on the positive and negative aspects of this influence. Such an influence can sometimes be described as positive, sometimes as negative, and at other times as ambiguous or contradictory. It seems that a more harmonious dialogue between social media and users needs to be established. Building boundaries of interaction between users and social media, along with engaging developers to improve social media tools and algorithms, would support the development of users’ imagination and creativity, as well as foster more interaction with the users themselves. This emerges as a future trend in the development of social media.
