The Contemporary and Future Use of Technology in Crime Control
摘要
Technology has become the single largest influence on the changing landscape of policing in America and the world. This chapter examines two specific technologies that have revolutionized policing in the current era, i.e., drones and vehicle license plate readers and analyzes the concerns in their usage. Their implementation has created effective crime reduction tactics within police departments nationwide and globally. Questions regarding the protections afforded by the Fourth Amendment in the American Constitution as it relates to personal privacy will also be addressed and related court decisions will be outlined. Furthermore, the use and potential for the use of cutting edge investigative genetic genealogy is inspected, including examples of its use in criminal investigations. The implications and issues raised by utilizing this developing and impressive form of technology will be discussed and the need for clarification, both by the courts and through legislation will be reviewed.
