Modern digital color astrophotographs of the Milky Way of the same regions and on the same scale are presented for direct comparison with the black and white photographic plates 1–50 from Barnard’s 1927 publication A Photographic Atlas of Selected Regions of the Milky Way. Thus, for each of Barnard’s 50 photographic black and white images there is a comparable modern color digital image of the same region on approximately the same image scale. The Barnard image is on the left page, the color image on the facing right page. On the next left page there is the hand drawn Chart for the respective Barnard photographic plate. On its facing right page is the modern color image with important objects labeled. On the next two pages for each Barnard plate discussed are modern color images on a closeup scale of some of the objects noted on the prior pages as well as a limited discussion of these objects and their importance.
