Moving Forward
摘要
Having now surveyed three areas of conflict between open science and socially responsive science, this final chapter makes suggestions for moving forward in the face of such conflict. Acknowledging the areas of conflict is the first step toward moving forward. In addition, research should be more cognizant of the values-related factors that make some scientific work far more prominent (in professional discourse) than other work of equivalent quality. A practical suggestion is to encourage more associations and outlets in which scholars can present and publish work. Finally, I argue that there are scientific questions in which we may need to remain epistemically agnostic, if social and political values present the full range of scientific work from being done on those questions.
