Open Science Can Undermine Politically Helpful Findings
摘要
Open science has led to new, much higher standards for scientific practice, and this has led to a questioning of many psychology research findings. Socially responsive science advocates have used psychology research to promote progressive social policies, and at times, open science advocates point to serious methodological limitations of that research base. Even worse, some new studies that meet open science standards apparently fail to support the promoted policies. Some scholars have argued that social values should affect the evidence threshold used for drawing conclusions in a scientific research study and even for deciding whether to publish results once they are obtained. However, incorporating social values into those judgments will lead to a severe bias in what research findings and conclusions make their way into journals. This is a major tension between open science and socially responsive science.
