Motivating Language and Positive Organizational Culture
摘要
Culture, broadly defined as a set of values, beliefs, assumptions, and symbols that determine how organizational members think and behave (Sriramesh et al. 1992), is often seen as the foundation of organizational decisions, communications, and actions and determines the organization’s well-being and success (Groysberg, Lee, Price, & Cheng, 2018). Developing a strong and healthy culture is a daunting task that requires leaders’ commitment and effective communication. In fact, leadership communication and organizational culture are inherently intertwined. While culture can influence leaders’ communication characteristics, and how things are said and done in the organization, more importantly, leadership communication cultivates organizational culture. In this chapter, we delve into the issue of leadership influence on culture, particularly from the communication perspective, and discuss how leaders’ use of motivating language influences the development of cognitive and emotional organizational culture.
