Peer Motivating Language: Moving beyond Leader-to-Follower Communication
摘要
This chapter focuses on the adoption of motivating language in a peer-to-peer setting, i.e., Peer Motivating Language (PML). By peers we are referring to someone’s co-workers. While the original motivating language framework focuses on leader-to-follower communication, peer ML is expanding its application to include a wider range of individuals who may play a significant role in someone’s work life. While research on PML is still in its infant stage, recent discoveries find significant links between peer motivating language use and important employee outcomes such as absenteeism, intent-to-stay, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, performance, gratitude, engagement, and empowerment. The impact of culture seems to also play a significant role in this context.
