Growing research shows the potential of Industry 4.0 technologies to form a more judicious and peaceful food environment across all agricultural and food activities, helping to prevent conflict and promote peaceful and inclusive societies. However, if not used equitably and responsibly, these technologies may exacerbate existing inequalities, enable exclusionary control over food systems, and deepen social tensions rather than alleviate them. This chapter explores the dual role of Industry 4.0 technologies in promoting, and at times undermining, peace, justice, and inclusion in the food sector, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16). It highlights the potential of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and big data, among others, to foster transparency, equity, and resilience across agricultural and food systems. Successful case studies demonstrate how these technological innovations can strengthen trust and inclusion along the agri-food supply chain. The chapter also critically examines the misuse of Industry 4.0 tools, with a case study focusing on Gaza, where advanced technologies have contributed to the destruction of food systems and the erosion of justice. By addressing both opportunities and risks, this chapter calls for responsible innovation frameworks to ensure that Industry 4.0 contributes to building peaceful, just, and inclusive food environments.
