The Right to Education of Young Girls at the Primary Level in Cameroon
摘要
This study examines the protection of the right to education for young girls in Cameroon under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC 1989), with a specific focus on article 28. The analysis begins with an overview of the legislative framework governing youth education in Cameroon, assessing its alignment with international standards. The core of this chapter scrutinizes, through a semiotic analysis, how effectively Cameroon upholds the educational rights of young girls at the primary level, as stipulated in various national and international documents. It discusses whether, among African countries that ratified the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, the right to education, including the promotion of equality to combat violence against girls, is given sufficient protection in domestic law in Cameroon. This study further highlights the need for targeted initiatives to improve the educational landscape for young girls in Cameroon.
