Instead of conclusions, the author shares general ideas about historical change and plausible futures of religiosity, ethnicity, sexuality, warfare, and humor. He presents reasons for the widespread adherence to sacred symbols. These features of human nature promise a long life for traditional religions and churches. Inevitable tensions and conflicts in human sexuality, race, and ethnicity will always create challenges-threats, but genuine creative reason will find new positive opportunities in these areas. There are surprising parallels between the problem of preventing war in the modern world and the ability of early sapiens to form intergroup alliances and to sustain voluntary long-term commitments. To move toward peace and humane orders, we can and must learn from an extended human history that includes anthropogenesis. Because of the vastness of human nature, people sometimes destroy each other's niches and suffer from catastrophes and violence. However, laughter and humor, together with good will, still help people to overcome present and future turbulences.
