An Overview of the Performance of South Africa ’s Executive , Legislature and Judiciary (1994–2024)
摘要
This chapter evaluates the performance of South Africa’s democratic institutions – Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary – across six administrations spanning from 1994 to 2024. Through a mixed-methods approach, it examines key governance and economic indicators, as well as the judiciary’s role within the doctrine of separation of powers. The chapter highlights governance strengths and challenges, tracking institutional accountability, economic transformation efforts and judicial independence. The findings suggest that while South Africa’s constitutional democracy remains robust, persistent governance shortcomings undermine developmental outcomes.
