Regional Variability of Climate Impacts in Venezuela

This chapter outlines three studies conducted to predict mid-twenty-first-century spatial variations in potential temperature and precipitation changes in Venezuela. The initial study utilizing the MPI-ESM 1.2-LR model under the SSP3–7.0 scenario revealed significant regional variability, emphasizing the need for targeted adaptation strategies. Subsequent analyses compared projections from multiple models (MPI, GISS, HadGEM) under the SSP5–8.5 scenario, highlighting pronounced temperature increases in southern and western regions and varied precipitation patterns, underscoring the importance of a multi-model approach. Finally, the third study assessed the impacts of these changes on rainfed maize cultivation in the western plains (Llanos), identifying temperature-induced challenges and advocating adaptive measures like heat-resistant crops and sustainable practices to ensure agricultural resilience and food security.
