The pathological processes involve impaired cellular function, disrupted wound healing phases, and persistent inflammation, resulting in prolonged tissue damage. Managing chronic wounds requires a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses wound assessment, optimization of systemic factors, wound bed preparation, infection control, and the implementation of advanced wound care modalities. Interventions, such as appropriate wound dressings, offloading techniques, negative pressure wound therapy, and cellular and tissue-based products, are essential in promoting wound healing. Furthermore, emerging technologies, such as bioactive dressings, growth factors, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and regenerative medicine, offer promising aspects for wound resolution.
