Alcohol and Substance Use Among Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals: Addressing the Unique Needs
摘要
In this chapter, we review existing research, the history of treatment services for the Deaf community and highlight language barriers and inadequate resources while proposing solutions to enhance inclusivity and effectiveness. We also include a case study that offers practical insights for providers and concludes with recommendations and solutions emphasizing the importance of inclusive, effective approaches to help improve the lives of deaf individuals facing substance use issues. By understanding the interplay of communication needs, cultural nuances, and the need for specialized care, providers can ensure deaf individuals get more accessible and appropriate support when dealing with substance use.
