A cochlear implant may allow some people to hear again if their hearing loss is too severe to be helped by traditional hearing aids. A cochlear implant is an implant that can transform auditory signals into an electrical signal. The cochlear modiolus’s spiral ganglion cells receive this electrical signal with electrodes. As of December 2019, the number of registered cochlear implant devices in patients worldwide reached about 736,900. Unfortunately, many people who could benefit from cochlear implants do not get them because healthcare facilities either lack the funds or do not know who would be a good candidate.
