Olfactory and Gustatory Rehabilitation
摘要
Olfaction and gustation are some of life’s most fundamental and enjoyable experiences, but their malfunction can lead to severe repercussions. The human nose is exposed to numerous airborne molecules in the nasal canal, creating a direct route for viruses, irritants, infections, and allergies to enter the body. Olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions have significant and escalating worldwide health consequences. The inability to smell may result in despair due to the loss of pleasure derived from eating, engaging with a partner, experiencing fresh air or flowers, and the scent of a newborn baby. The scope of olfaction transcends the person, influencing the quality of life of the patient’s family, friends, and all individuals with whom the patient interacts. The necessity to enhance information and care techniques for patients with olfactory and gustatory impairment is apparent.
