Pharmacological Treatment of Pain in ENT Disorders
摘要
This chapter outlines essential pain care strategies for ear, nose, and throat disorders, focusing on both acute and chronic pain. It begins with an overview of pain management approaches grounded in nociceptive and neuropathic pain, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary strategy that includes nonpharmacological, interventional methods, and pharmacotherapy. The use of opioids in chronic pain management is examined in detail, covering their benefits, precautions, side effects, and toxicities, as well as therapy adjustments for patients with opioid use disorder. To avoid prolonged opioid use, multimodal analgesia strategies for postsurgical and cancer pain are discussed. The chapter also highlights the role of antineuropathic medications, such as gabapentinoids, in enhancing outcomes when used alongside nonopioid and opioid analgesics in postoperative and head and neck cancer.
