Benzodiazepines are historically significant anxiolytic molecules in human psychiatry. In veterinary psychiatry, they are used to manage specific phobic or anxious pathological states, especially during panic attacks not controllable by other psychotropics. However, the fact that they impair memory and reduce the effectiveness of behavioral therapies leads to the preference for molecules from other chemical groups in many indications, especially as a first-line treatment.
