Organization, People and Processes
摘要
This chapter highlights the crucial role organizational structures play in enabling ethical deliberation within software development. It emphasizes that ethical software engineering depends not only on deliberating about what is right but also on creating an organizational structure that actively supports ethical reflection and decision-making. Ethical deliberation cannot properly flourish in environments constrained by tight deadlines, inadequate resources, or conflicting incentives; therefore, organizations must intentionally cultivate both formal and informal structures that promote ethical awareness and deliberation. Furthermore, this chapter argues that agile methodologies offer a particularly conducive environment for ethical deliberation through their iterative processes, team autonomy, and low hierarchies. Specifically, Sprint 0 and the role of the Product Owner are identified as a key point and role for integrating ethics early and continuously into the development process. Ultimately, the chapter calls for institutionalizing ethical practices within software-producing organizations, acknowledging the uniqueness of each organizational context, and underscoring the necessity of adapting these guidelines pragmatically to achieve sustainable ethical software development.
