This chapter analyses the election process in Assam during the 2024 Parliamentary Elections and demonstrates that despite slogan of Viksit Bharat and Sab Ka Sath, Sab ka Biswas at an all-India level, at the State level of Assam the BJP depended on its time-tested theme of ‘threats from the immigrant MuslimsMuslims’ to win the elections. It argues that the BJP tested appropriating the Ram Mandir issue in Assam which found few takers. It even tried to draw the immigrant MuslimsMuslims bloc once their concentration was broken through delimitation but eventually it was the ‘Miya menace’ that it relied on. Congress and other parties limited themselves to threat to secular fabric and threat to constitutionConstitution rhetoric but added promise of generous free-bee to reclaim its lost territory without major success. The victory of the BJP does not indicate the increased allure of Hindutva in Assam. It is noteworthy that, despite a century-long struggle of Assamese HindusHindus against Muslim immigration, HindutvaHindutva has never really penetrated the Assamese psyche due to the overwhelming influence of the Mahapurushia ethos among them. In 2024, the BJP’s victory was attributable not to the ascendance of HindutvaHindutva, but rather to the compounded effects of the delimitation process and the absence of a substantial opposition in Assam. The generous offer of various freebees only added to the allure.
