Family Violence and Nursing Education
摘要
Family violence is a global public health issue that often leads to significant physical and mental health problems. The harm caused by this violence results in greater help-seeking behaviour by patients, compared with those not experiencing family violence. Nurses and health systems have an important place in identifying family violence, providing optimal care and enabling healing and recovery. This chapter discusses the importance of family violence education, training and skill development in nursing pre-service and post graduate education. This includes the nurse’s role in family violence identification and response, and best pedagogical methods for enhancing nurse family violence knowledge and clinical practice, including the evidence on the minimum curriculum content required. Comprehensive health service systems are required to ensure an optimal and evidence-based response to family violence. This chapter can be used as a resource to guide continuous professional development and improve nursing skills for the care of patients experiencing family violence.
