Enhancing Dialogic Inquiry in the Context of Implementing Inquire
摘要
This chapter integrates key book concepts and frameworks to offer decision-makers and practitioners a practical perspective on promoting change towards dialogic teaching and learning practices in educational settings. It reviews central dialogic inquiry concepts and explains how practitioners can use the ‘Toolkit for Enhancing Dialogic Inquiry (TEDI)’ to foster dialogic inquiry in everyday practice. The chapter also offers recommendations and resources for implementing TEDI strategies, exemplifying them through our Inquire educational programme. We illustrate some strategies by drawing on dialogue excerpts and explain how the enactment of the strategies reflects underlying dialogic teaching and learning principles. Professional development programmes that empower practitioners with research-informed tools to act as co-designers of change are key in supporting their appropriation of dialogic inquiry strategies. However, fostering dialogic inquiry goes far beyond promoting the enactment of particular strategies. It requires transforming educational institutions into Communities of Dialogic Inquiry through systemic interventions that embrace a broad dialogic approach to education and encourage practitioners to enact their agency as reflective and context-sensitive professionals. Crucially, children’s learning should be centre stage, and their dialogic interaction repertoires must be directly targeted. Our two-pronged approach that encompasses learning through dialogue and learning for dialogue can significantly enrich children’s dialogic repertoires.
