Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the well-known quantitative tools to analyze the environmental impact of products and services throughout their life cycle stages. LCA assists in pinpointing unnoticeable impact hotspots and suggests options to reduce environmental as well as economic overheads. Waste Management refers to the schemes associated with managing different types of waste from cradle to grave including collection, transportation, disposal/recycling, and monitoring. This chapter focuses on how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies can be utilized to evaluate the environmental and economic impacts associated with different waste management strategies and technologies for sustainable waste management. The role of LCA studies in assessing both traditional waste management techniques and advanced technologies is critically discussed throughout the chapter ensuring the sustainability of different strategies and technologies practiced worldwide. The challenges faced when carrying out LCAs for waste management services and the advancements in LCA tools and models to better manage the service is also a key focus here. In conclusion, this chapter provides insights into how LCA studies can be integrated with waste management practices and assist in thriving more sustainable, equitable, and economically feasible societies.
