This chapter will address how and why systemic gaps in medical knowledge about women’s bodieswomen’s bodies are created and sustained. Noting how medical knowledge is shaped by the same construction of the male bodymale body as the ‘gold standard’ of humanity, it will highlight the absence of women in medical researchresearch, demonstrating how this continued invisibility of women in research impacts practice.
