Over the past two decades, the convergence of a deeper understanding of vitiligo pathogenesis with new therapeutic modalities has opened up fertile ground to develop new treatments for this ancient skin condition. While exciting work is also happening in the area of melanocyte transplantation and other skin cell-based treatments, this chapter will focus on emerging pharmaceutical treatments for vitiligo by highlighting specific pathways in vitiligo onset and progression that are being targeted by new drugs. Additionally, we discuss features of new therapeutic approaches including biologics, small molecules, and RNAi. It was only in 2022 that the first FDA-approved treatment for repigmentation of vitiligo became available on the market. However, given the pace of current drug development, it appears that many additional therapies are expected in the near future to treat this condition.
