Visualizing Impressions of J-POP Artists Among University Students
摘要
This study aimed to visualize the emotional impressions that university students have toward music, with a particular focus on popular J-POP artists. Participants evaluated their impressions of ten artists using the Semantic Differential (SD) method with 19 pairs of emotional descriptors. The collected data were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA), which revealed three primary emotional dimensions: Excitement, Emotional Depth, and Melancholy. Based on these axes, a two-dimensional positioning map was created, enabling intuitive comparison of the emotional characteristics of each artist. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of using semantic evaluation and PCA to structure and visualize psychological impressions of music. The approach has potential applications in music recommendation systems and music education, offering support for understanding emotional perception in musical contexts.
