Strategy for Improving Environmental and Economic Indicators of Road Transport Power Systems

The future security of humankind is closely tied to reducing environmental pollution caused by harmful emissions and greenhouse gases from road transport. Technical solutions for minimizing diesel engine exhaust emissions have led to notable progress. Over the past 30 years, the efficiency of diesel engines has improved 4.17 times based on fuel and environmental criteria. Further advancements focus on reducing harmful emissions, improving fuel efficiency, energy performance, reliability, using low-carbon hybrid fuels, and implementing decarbonisation. A proposed criterion quantifies decarbonisation measures, allowing comparative calculations for different engine types and modernization stages. Comprehensive assessment of diesel engines is recommended using both fuel and environmental criteria and a new decarbonisation criterion. For Ukraine, enhancing transport diesel engines and adopting strategies to mitigate environmental impacts are crucial for post-war recovery, aiming to rebuild critical economic sectors with advanced technologies.
