Neuropsychologists working in acute care and rehabilitation settings face unique challenges related to brief length of stay and medical acuity, which can limit the time available to gather important information about patients’ values, beliefs, and preferences to provide culturally informed care. Increased knowledge about the ways in which culture affects patients’ experiences of healthcare, preparatory work (e.g., obtaining relevant tests and norms, translating psychoeducational material), and self-reflection to increase an understanding of one’s own cultural lens will assist neuropsychologists with providing culturally informed services that best meet the needs of diverse populations served in the acute care and rehabilitation settings. This chapter presents research literature that addresses cultural disparities and translates these findings into practical recommendations to facilitate cultural competency among neuropsychologists working in these settings.

摘要
