Facial Aging: A Comprehensive Examination of Time’s Impact

Facial aging is a multifaceted process influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors that impact the skin, soft tissues, and underlying skeletal structures. This chapter delves into the anatomical and physiological changes associated with aging, emphasizing the role of bone resorption, fat compartment redistribution, and muscle alterations in shaping the aging face. The interplay between deep and superficial fat compartments, as well as their distinct response to aging, is explored, shifting the paradigm from a gravitational model to a volumetric perspective. Additionally, the text highlights the impact of molecular mechanisms such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and hormonal changes on skin aging. A particular focus is placed on Autologous Regenerative Therapy in Aesthetics (ARTA), utilizing adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) to restore volume, improve skin texture, and promote facial rejuvenation. Advanced fat grafting techniques, including Superficial Enhanced Fluid Fat Injection (SEFFI) and guided SEFFI, are discussed as key strategies for a holistic and natural rejuvenation approach. By addressing the complex interactions between different facial layers, this chapter provides a comprehensive framework for regenerative aesthetic treatments aimed at reversing age-related facial changes.
