Understanding Factors Influencing Trust in Software Development Teams in Hybrid Work Settings: An Empirical Investigation
摘要
The widespread adoption of hybrid work settings in software development has introduced new challenges in team collaboration, coordination, and trust-building. While hybrid work offers flexibility, it also reduces opportunities for informal interactions and shared identity formation, leading to communication gaps and trust deficits among team members. This study empirically examines the factors that influence trust in hybrid software development teams through 18 semi-structured interviews with practitioners from 10 software organizations in the USA, UK, and India. Using qualitative analysis, we identify five categories that represent multidimensional perspectives on trust in hybrid software development teams. Our findings emphasize the importance of these trust factors, providing software organizations with valuable insight to develop strategies to promote trust in hybrid teams.
