A post-car scenario for the city of Mykolaiv inspired the analysis of accessibility through the application of the Inclusive Accessibility by Proximity Index (IAPI), a tool designed to measure proximity-based accessibility and inform mobility policy decisions. The post-car city model is grounded in the formulation of place-based, integrated land use and transport policies that promote accessibility by proximity, thereby ensuring access to essential services and everyday opportunities through active and sustainable mobility options. By applying IAPI as a proximity-oriented accessibility tool, this chapter identifies areas of Mykolaiv where active mobility can be enhanced through improvements in cycle-pedestrian infrastructure, the revitalisation of public spaces to encourage conviviality, the strengthening of public transport networks, the introduction of shared mobility systems, and the promotion of intramodality to support sustainable urban travel. Furthermore, IAPI-based assessments orient the redistribution of essential services at the neighborhood scale, aiming to ensure equitable access to opportunities and to foster the socio-economic development of local communities across the municipality of Mykolaiv.
