The Role of Schools in Educating Learners on Waste Management During Health Crises: The Case of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Waste management during a pandemic such as COVID-19 is essential to protect public health and the environment. Educational establishments play a key role in raising awareness and adopting good practices. This study analyzes the impact of the pandemic on waste management, the measures taken, and the results achieved. It highlights the importance of raising awareness among learners and proposes teaching approaches and skills to improve waste management in future health crises. The research results highlight the specific characteristics of waste during a pandemic. They also show that the notion of a pandemic is completely absent from the life and earth sciences (L&E) curriculum. In addition, they highlight the importance of schools in the transfer of waste management education during a pandemic. Lastly, the research suggests educational content that can be adapted to deal with and combat this type of phenomenon.
